Bookshelf Porn

In Books, Culture on February 6, 2013 at 11:54 pm

I love reading. I love books. I love books to the point of a fetish and although an ordinary person’s ability to store them is limited, I can’t help but dream that one day I will have the room to turn a large part of my home into a library. Actually, what I meant to say was that I hope one day I can turn a part of a large library into my home.

Bookshelf Porn is for people like me. There are probably many varieties of us; some use public libraries more than book shops; some have an e-reader tucked away, too. I think my early love affair with excellent public libraries in Finland has a lot to do with my book fetish. I think it’s important to celebrate libraries for many reasons. I wrote a bit of a rant about that for Blogcritics a little while ago.

I am sure to return to this topic later. If only to complain about lack of space in our current modest house for all the hundreds of novels, text books, biographies, dictionaries, reference books, course books, graphic novels…
Let’s not get into the two thousand books we have stored away at my mother-in-law’s garage for “when we move somewhere bigger.”

  1. I could look at that site ALL DAY. I feel you on this one.

  2. Glad to hear it – the more of us bibliophiles there are, the less I worry about books vanishing. :)
